This award is offered annually by the Joint CivicCommittee of Italian Americans.
John Fischetti was a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist whose work for many years graced the pages of the New York Herald Tribune, the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Sun-Times. He was also a man whose enthusiasm for life and generosity of spirit won him many friends.
Eligible scholarship applicants must be students of full Italian ancestry or who are 50% Italian ancestry; who are either undergraduates in journalism or communication; or a college student who has been accepted into college with the intent of establishing a major in journalism or media communications. The scholarship award is $2,000and is only for residents of the Chicago metropolitan area.
The Women's Division of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans is offering scholarships in the amount of $2,000 to young ladies, of Italian heritage.
1. Resident of Illinois.
2. At least one parent of the applicant must be of Italian descent.
3. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
4. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who will be enrolled full-time in a2 or4 year accredited college/university or an accredited vocational/technical school.
5. Recipient must be present to accept the award.
To be eligible for the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Scholarship, applicant must be a mal student who is already enrolled in an accredited college/university or is a senior in high school and accepted for enrollment by an accredited college/university, has a grade average of 3.75 or higher (on a scale of 4.0 and who is of full Italian ancestry or 50% Italian ancestry.
