Single Parent With Children Scholarship

The Single Parents with Children Scholarship is a fund that has been established to assist single, divorced or widowed Emporia State University students who are raising children and attending school simultaneously.  Scholarship funds in the amount of $2,000 are awarded for the academic year, with half of the disbursement in the fall semester and the remainder in the spring semester.

The recipient must:


  1. Be a single parent with primary, sole, or joint custody of their child or children.
  2. Achieve and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75.
  3. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year in which the scholarship is to be awarded.
  4. Demonstrate financial need based on their FAFSA.
  5. Be enrolled at ESU in at least 12 credit hours for the fall semester of the scholarship year for undergraduate, or 7 credit hours for graduate students.





This scholarship is renewable for up to total of three years.

Recipients seeking a renewed scholarship must:

  1. Continue to meet all of the eligibility requirements listed in the section above.
  2. Submit a new application each year (including all materials except letters of recommendation).
  3. Complete 12 or more credit hours for undergraduate (7 credit hours or more for graduate students) per semester and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
  4. Failure to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress will result in a one semester probation period.  The scholarship will be forfeited on the second failure to meet credit hours and GPA requirements.
